Re-imagine an urban front yard with an ornamental vegetable garden surrounded by lush floral borders
This active family with two young boys wanted a place to grow food, lounge in the front yard with friends and have blooms upon blooms of midwestern flowers to enjoy. Home renovations made a compacted mess of the front yard, so the newly seeded lawn will be watched over with a close eye for any soil amendments or aeration needed down the road. Previous design work by another firm included a new concrete driveway and paver walkway, but the bulk of the garden was a blank slate. Custom tuteurs, vegetable beds and benches frame the center of the garden, surrounded by low maintenance flowering shrubs, trees and perennials. Evergreen grasses form the understory of the borders. A bulb layer will be installed fall of 2017.
